The idea of hosting a festival in Ponta do Sol began with the European project “Pas de Deux” in January 2015, and two years later, the Cultural Pranks Festival took place.
A multidisciplinary and interactive festival, its aim is not only to create and bring “extraordinary events” but also to mobilize the energies and creative forces of the region for interaction with artists from outside, with the goal of “bringing the world to the island and the island to the world.”
The current global situation reflects a certain difficulty for people and nations to engage in dialogue and understanding. Faced with these uncertainties, it is necessary to resist. This year, we held the seventh edition of the festival and themed it “Art in Protest.” Awareness through memory becomes a stage for artistic creation and expression, where the arts occupy all the space. Art that challenges, questions, and raises awareness seeks not only to entertain but also to provoke deep reflections on our past, present, and future.
With an outdoor exhibition titled “Protest Songs,” we showcase emblematic songs of revolutions, resistances, and labor struggles, representing uprisings of all kinds around the world. These are songs that people sing when they revolt and demand justice because there are no popular movements without music.
