Toninho do Carmo and Maria Teresa
Inspired by the exhibition “Music in Ebullition Singing and Dribbling Censorship”, Toninho do Carmo and Maria Teresa present on stage a selection of striking songs that have been and continue to be transformative.
It is safe to say that each song will certainly be someone’s favorite in the audience, after all these are some of the most iconic songs of the 20th and 21st centuries. Some are better known to the public, others less so, but all carry a unique and powerful message, with lyrics constructed with a purpose and which, for the attentive listener, bring clear messages.
It is these messages and verses that have made these songs examples of how to escape censorship, create an emotional connection with the listener, and sometimes provoke self-reflection on society, oneself, or those around us.
This unique show reconnects us with our humanity and empathy, as well as with our duty to fight for rights, whether they are ours or those of “the other”, for the rights of all.
This warm, polyglot, and transgenerational musical journey is the perfect way to close the festival in beauty. Not to be missed.
Date: Sunday, November 17
Location: John dos Passos Cultural Center, Ponta do Sol
