Exhibition “How a Comic Book is Born” – LEO

A dive into the behind-the-scenes of the creative process of a comic book, from writing to color selection, unveiling the secrets behind the images and stories that fascinate readers of all ages.

The Cais of Vila da Ponta do Sol becomes the epicenter of comic book creation with an exploration of LEO’s “Worlds of Aldebaran“, bringing Aldebaran to this historic quay, once the entry point, loading and unloading point from Ponta do Sol to Funchal, and then to the rest of the world.

This historic quay, essential to the development of Vila da Ponta do Sol and formerly the second most important loading quay in Madeira, today becomes a portal to Aldebaran and its creation.

With ten panels illustrating examples from LEO’s comic book saga “The Worlds of Aldebaran“, displayed on the Ponta do Sol quay (a unique structure completed in 1849 and shaped from the island’s typical basalt), visitors can discover the first steps of creating a comic book and the unique universes it imagines.
These universes present their own fauna, flora, engineering, and architecture. We explore the behind-the-scenes of the creative process, from script to color, through visuals provided by LEO and Dargaud editions.

From the origins of Ponta do Sol, bridge and starting point towards the creation of a comic book, a comic book universe, and towards Aldebaran.
